Heritage 1970

The North American Watch Corporation (NAWC), headed by Gedalio Grinberg, acquired the Concord Watch Company in 1970. Born in Cuba in 1931, Grinberg, an entrepreneurial college-educated watch salesman from Havana, fled Castro’s revolution in 1960, moving to the US with his young family. In 1965, he founded NAWC as an exclusive distributorship for luxury Swiss watches. In 1993, NAWC went public, and in 1996 changed its name to Movado Group, Inc. “Gerry” Grinberg was a watch industry visionary who early in his career recognized the potential cachet of luxury watches, and marketed them accordingly.
